Tết Nguyên Đán returns to Wanneroo Showgrounds this Friday and Saturday. Highlights include authentic Vietnamese food, cultural performances,
carnival rides and live music as well as a spectacular fireworks display
to usher in the Year of Rat.
Hosted
by the WA Chapter of Vietnamese Community in Australia, the
Tết celebration is one of WA's most exciting carnivals and is
increasingly drawing festival-goers from the wider community.
This
year's Tết celebration is being supported by McGowan Government with
$20,000 through the Office of Multicultural Interests, $17,428 through
Lotterywest and $15,000 through Healthway.
Citizenship and
Multicultural Interests Minister, Mr Paul Papalia, acknowledged the
contributions made by the 21,000-strong Vietnamese community to the
social, economic and cultural development of this State.
"Tết is a
time of joy and for families and friends to come together to enjoy
special food and share best wishes for the year ahead. Tết celebrations
in Perth are an opportunity for everyone to experience the vibrant
Vietnamese culture that is such an important part of our community."
Minister Papalia wishes everyone good fortune for Year of the Rat, and Chúc mừng năm mới!

In Vietnamese culture, individual birthdays are not
acknowledged – instead, everyone is considered to turn one year older on the
next Tet. Come celebrate everyone’s birthday on Tet!
