Western Australians are encouraged to experience the excitement of Vietnamese New Year celebrations at Tet Festival 2025 this weekend.
Vietnamese New Year, known as Tet Nguyen Dan (Tet), means Festival of the First Morning and is considered the most important festival of the year in Vietnam. Similar to Chinese New Year, Tet is celebrated according to the lunar calendar.
The annual Tet Festival, hosted by the Vietnamese Community in Australia — WA Chapter Inc, will be held at Girrawheen Senior High School Oval over two evenings from Friday 31 January to Saturday 1 February 2025.
This ever-growing event will feature a wide array of Vietnamese food stalls, cultural performances, market stalls and thrilling lion and dragon dances.
The 2025 Lunar New Year starts on Wednesday 29 January and ends on Wednesday 12 February 2025. Celebrations will occur across the State to mark the auspicious start of the Year of the Snake, which is thought to be a time of renewal, growth and transformation. Lunar New Year is celebrated in countries throughout Asia, including China, Malaysia, Vietnam, Korea, Japan and Singapore.
