​The Office of Multicultural Interests (OMI), the Australian Institute of Translators and Interpreters (AUSIT) and the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI) have partnered to provide scholarships for practising interpreters for some in-demand languages to undertake the face-to-face 'Foundations in Translating and Interpreting' course to be delivered by Babel International College (BIC)  in Victoria Park. 

The in-demand languages for the January 2020 scholarships have been identified as follows:

  • African languages/dialects: Amharic, Anuak, Ewe, Kirundi, Kiswahili, Lingala, Oromo, Sudanese Arabic, Tigrinya
  • Asian Languages/dialects: Arabic, Burmese, Chin, Karen, Pashto, Tamil, Vietnamese
