This two-hour professional learning session is an opportunity for Interpreters to increase their skills and knowledge in providing interpreting services to survivors of trauma and understand the supports that are available for interpreters.

Content includes:

  • understanding best practices when working with trauma survivors
  • cross-cultural and trauma-informed communication skills during an interpreted encounter
  • the roles and responsibilities involved, as an interpreter, when working with trauma survivors
  • opportunities to develop skills to better identify challenges and strategies when working with mental health professionals
  • opportunities to reflect on the emotional impact of working with trauma survivors and available supports
