Empower a woman to empower a nation in 2017

3 March 2017

International Women's Day (IWD) is held all over the world on 8 March each year to recognise and applaud women’s achievements.

The theme for IWD 2017 is Empower a Woman, Empower a Nation, recognising that gender equality is both an economic and social imperative.

An increase in women's participation and leadership in our communities is proven to provide benefits for the whole of society.

IWD highlights the economic, political and social contributions of women and recognises their achievements across all walks of life.

Events and activities including walks, dinners, talks, panels, morning teas and breakfasts will be held across the State, not only on IWD but throughout the week. IWD events enable women to celebrate and acknowledge the economic, political and social gains that have been made, and to consider the work still to be done.

The Office of Multicultural Interests works to ensure that the needs of CaLD women are addressed as a priority group under its strategy to ensure that everyone has equitable access to government and non-government services in the areas of language, settlement, health and employment.

To get involved visit the Department of Local Government and Communities’ International Women’s Day events calendar.
